Be the Now with prepared Improvisation and getting familiar with in / out, composing in real time, building trust through practice.
What this workshop is
Impro-Compo is a practice space for dancers who wants to improvise and compose without getting lost or freezing. We train with specific task to train little sketch of improvisation.
That means you’ll discuss a frame of rules and tasks you want to explore and you learn to play it live—listening, feeling, deciding, composing on the spot. No judgment. No good or bad. It is a safe space. We work together.
Dates
6 sessions on Monday evening 20:30-22:00 + 1 informal showing
- March 16, 23, 30
- April 13
- May 11, 18, 25
What we train
- In / Out practice: entering, exiting, returning—without drama
- Real-time composition: timing, spacing, focus, rhythm, contrast
- Compositional tools: constraints, scores, tasks, editing choices
- Witnessing & feedback: precise, supportive, useful (no aesthetics contest)
- Stage readiness: making clear decisions under pressure, staying alive
The kick-off task example
This is how we started last time. We might repeat it. Here it is. Come with one idea and turn it into a small score. Choose a short text (or write one) that can nurture a physical experiment. Then build a few rules/tasks you can remember well enough to perform.
- Time frame: 30 seconds to 3 minutes
- You’ll get 30 minutes in the studio in the first session to work on it
- No music. Because… you are the music. (Yes, you can sing.)
- Simple or bold—both are welcome
If this feels beyond your capabilities, send me a message. We’ll adapt the frame. The point is to start doing and stop thinking only.
How a session flows
We work like a lab:
practice → short showings → feedback → re-try. You’ll show and watch on small doses. That’s how you learn fast—and how the room becomes a place of trust.
For who
Dancers, performers, movers, actors, anyone curious about improvisation as composition, and composition as a live act. All levels welcome if you’re ready to work with attention and generosity.
Final day
The last session is an informal showing: each participant performs a improvised real time composition . It will be an experience .And you might surprise yourself what you can do and how you can feel.
